Please note that the itinerary listed below is only a suggested one, we try to cater to every individual parties needs as much as possible. The only set part in this itinerary is the Safari experience which is unmissable!

12 Day African Adventure

  • Day 1
    Your magical holiday begins upon arrival at Durban International airport, you will be met by your hosts and escorted in our air-conditioned fully wheelchair accessible vehicle along the beautiful coastline to the Ekuthuleni Lodge. Once here, you will be able to spend the rest of the day relaxing and unwinding from your travel exertions. This first evening gives you the unique experience of eating under the starry African skies at Ekutheleni Lodge, the beginning of your wonderful South African Adventure.

  • Day 2
    After a good nights sleep in your luxury thatch chalet, enjoy a full English breakfast under the sun. Then its time to set off to Durban, this beautiful and exciting city is just 35 minutes away from the lodge. With golden beaches that stretch for miles and days filled with sun and relaxation to the bustling city's nightlife it's no wonder Durban is known as "the city with a fun never sets!". Today you get the chance to explore "The Golden Mile!", the center of Durban's beautiful beaches where you can see a colourful mix of cultures and nationalities and places of interest galore. Possible places to visit would be, uShaka Island Marine World where you can see spectacular shows throughout the day, Fun world offers an assortment of 19 different rides, a cacophony of colour craft markets, bustling restaurants, enjoy a boat ride that explores Durban Harbor or you could just take in the beauty of the 6 km long views of the Esplanade that is "The Golden Mile!"

  • Day 3
    Wake up to the sounds of the birds and wildlife whose habitat is the beautiful indigenous gardens at the lodge. Today we get the chance to get up close with prehistoric crocodiles and reptiles whilst visiting Crocworld. Basking on grassy banks or lying log like in the muddy waters, crocodiles-there are 7000 of them here, are fearsome even when seen in the distance from the walkways and bridges of his 27-hectare park. The Park's aquarium claims to be the only one for crocodiles in Africa and also contains fish, water monitors, alligators, terrapins and snakes. Of course, if reptiles are not on your list for things to see then you can always spend the day relaxing and enjoying the surroundings of Ekutheleni Lodge.

  • Day 4
    It's time to get your binoculars out, make sure your camera is ready for action as we travel up the North Coast (approx 3 hour drive) to visit the oldest proclaimed Game Park in Africa, the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Park founded in 1895. Over the next three days you will have a chance to explore the 100 000 hectares of magnificent woodland savannah and flood plains trying to spot the "BIG FIVE" Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino and the elusive Leopard. Your stay whilst here is in the world-renowned hilltop camp. Luxurious accessible chalets each with their own flush floor shower facilities. All meals will be At the excellent Mapunye restaurant where you will experience first world cuisine and comforts in the wilds of Africa. The first evening here will give you a chance to go on a night drive in an open game viewing vehicle; this is of course if you are able to transfer. This will improve on your chances of seeing some of the nocturnal species such as leopard (always difficult to find), lion, hyena, Genet, and bush babies and then the other nocturnal animals such as the owls and nightjars.

  • Day 5
    Today will be spent on extended game drives to different areas of the Park. This is the game reserve famous for "Operation Rhino" which brought with the white rhino back from the brink of extinction. Now you should see just how successful the nature conservation service has been. Lunch will either be at the restaurant or a safari picnic at some view site. Sightings today should be of rhino, giraffe, Buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, warthog, baboon, vervet monkey, with antelope such as impala, nyala and kudu frequently seen and with the possibility of seeing lion, leopard, cheetah, elephants, black rhino, Hippo, crocodile, monitor lizards, hyena & antelope such as red bush duiker, steenbok, waterbuck, eland, reedbuck, bush buck and then the rarer samango monkey and wild dog much less frequently seen.

  • Day 6
    After your final early morning game drive and with breakfast taken, time to venture back through the park to the memorial gate leisurely, thus giving you a good chance to catch some last-minute photos of your favorite animals. Then it's time to head back down the coast to the Ekutheleni Lodge for a good nights sleep from the tiring days of game viewing.

  • Day 7
    Choose a magical cultural tour to experience Zulu dancing, history, food and beer tasting with the locals at Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve or head for a thrilling sea safari to view dolphins and whales.

  • Day 8
    Today is your scenic South Coast Meander to Oribi Gorge. A spectacular natural paradise with a range of adrenaline including activities such as the wild gorge swing, zipline, abseling, white water rafting, birding or gorge exploration. A mixture of fun and exhilaration that is accessible and unforgettable.

  • Day 9
    Time to take a Midlands Meander, to see the Valley Of a thousand Hills and visit the Phezulu cultural village. Situated on the edge of the mighty Valley of thousand Hills, visitors will get to see one of the most impressive panoramic views in Africa. You will get the chance to experience vibrant Zulu dancing and other cultural rituals performed by the renowned Gassa clan. There is also a heritage market filled with African beadwork and curios, a must for you to collect your souvenirs of Africa.

  • Day 10
    A visit to the largest shopping center in the Southern Hemisphere will give you the chance to take advantage of the good exchange rate in South Africa. Whether it is a pound, dollar or Euro the exchange rate to the Rand is going to buy you a good exchange. However, don't despair if shopping is your nightmare, as this complex boasts movie houses, restaurants and pure entertainment that will make it a worthwhile trip for everyone to enjoy.

  • Day 11
    A special day awaits you after breakfast. We travel to Umhlanga ( 45min ) and head of to the Sharks Board for an entertaining and informative audio and visual of sharks. The wildlife feast is continued at the exotic Umgeni River Bird Park, Snake park and lastly the Botanical Gardens. A full day of wonder even for the skeptic nature lover.

  • Day 12
    Time to rest and relax at the lodge. A time for reflection of the magical days spent in the sun, surf and safari before your return to Durban International Airport and your final farewell.

We are able to organise other activities such as horse riding, scuba diving, golf, helicopter rides and cultural evening entertainment.

Please note that all the daily excursions are purely optional, you are more than welcome to spend your days at the comfortable surroundings of the Lodge. Any alternate excursions including evening ones can be arranged at the Lodge for your convenience, your comfort and enjoyment is paramount!
